PPL.VI.D — Lost Procedures
Objective: To determine that the applicant exhibits satisfactory knowledge, risk management, and skills associated with lost procedures and taking appropriate steps to achieve a satisfactory outcome if lost.
Knowledge
The applicant demonstrates understanding of:
PA.VI.D.K1Methods to determine positionPA.VI.D.K2Assistance available if lost (e.g., radar services, communication procedures).
Risk Management
The applicant demonstrates the ability to identify, assess and mitigate risks, encompassing:
PA.VI.D.R1Collision hazards, to include aircraft, terrain, obstacles, and wires.PA.VI.D.R2Distractions, loss of situational awareness, and/or improper task management.PA.VI.D.R3Failure to record times over waypoints.PA.VI.D.R4Failure to seek assistance or declare an emergency in a deteriorating situation
Skills
The applicant demonstrates the ability to:
PA.VI.D.S1Use an appropriate method to determine position.PA.VI.D.S2Maintain an appropriate heading and climb as necessary.PA.VI.D.S3Identify prominent landmarks.PA.VI.D.S4Use navigation systems/facilities and/or contact an ATC facility for assistance.
