Objective: To determine that the applicant exhibits satisfactory knowledge, risk management, and skills associated with diversion.
Knowledge
The applicant demonstrates understanding of:
CA.VI.C.K1Selecting an alternate destination.CA.VI.C.K2Situations that require deviations from flight plan or ATC instructions.
Risk Management
The applicant demonstrates the ability to identify, assess and mitigate risks, encompassing:
CA.VI.C.R2Distractions, loss of situational awareness, or improper task management.CA.VI.C.R3Failure to make a timely decision to divert.CA.VI.C.R4Failure to select an appropriate airport or seaplane base.CA.VI.C.R5Failure to utilize all available resources (e.g., automation, ATC, and flight deck planning aids).
Skills
The applicant demonstrates the ability to:
CA.VI.C.S1Select a suitable destination and route for diversion.CA.VI.C.S2Make a reasonable estimate of heading, groundspeed, arrival time, and fuel consumption to the divert airport.CA.VI.C.S3Maintain the appropriate altitude ±100 feet and heading ±10°.CA.VI.C.S4Update/interpret weather in flight.CA.VI.C.S5Utilize flight deck displays of digital weather and aeronautical information, as applicable.
