COMM.IX.B — Emergency Approach and Landing (Simulated) (ASEL, ASES)
Objective: To determine that the applicant exhibits satisfactory knowledge, skills and risk management associated with a power failure at altitude and associated emergency approach and landing procedures.

Risk Management
The applicant demonstrates the ability to identify, assess and mitigate risks, encompassing:
CA.IX.B.R1Failure to consider altitude, wind, terrain, obstructions, gliding distance, and available landing distance.CA.IX.B.R2Failure to plan and follow a flightpath to the selected landing area.CA.IX.B.R3Collision hazards, to include aircraft, terrain, obstacles, and wires.CA.IX.B.R4Improper airplane configuration.CA.IX.B.R5Low altitude maneuvering including, stall, spin, or CFIT.CA.IX.B.R6Distractions, loss of situational awareness, or improper task management.
