ATP.IV.B — Recovery from Unusual Flight Attitudes
Objective: To determine that the applicant exhibits satisfactory knowledge, risk management, and skills associated with recovering from unusual flight attitudes.
Knowledge
The applicant demonstrates understanding of:
AA.IV.B.K1Procedures for recovery from unusual flight attitudes.AA.IV.B.K2Unusual flight attitude causal factors, including physiological factors, system and equipment failures, and environmental factors.AA.IV.B.K3The operating envelope and structural limitations for the airplane.AA.IV.B.K4Effects of engine location, wing design, and other specific design characteristics that could affect aircraft control during the recovery.
Risk Management
The applicant demonstrates the ability to identify, assess and mitigate risks, encompassing:
AA.IV.B.R2Failure to recognize an unusual flight attitude and follow the proper recover procedure.AA.IV.B.R3Exceeding the operating envelope during the recovery.
Skills
The applicant demonstrates the ability to:
AA.IV.B.S1Use instrument cross-check and interpretation to identify an unusual attitude (including both nose-high and nose-low), and apply the appropriate pitch, bank, and power corrections, in the correct sequence, to return to a stabilized level flight attitude.
